Year 2 Split Cohort - parent feedback details

7 June 2024 (by admin)

Dear Year 2 Parents/Carers,

School leaders have made the decision to split the cohort into two equal sized classes from September 2024. With the cohort reaching at least 35 pupils from September, we are no longer able to have the pupils in one classroom for several operational reasons.

Moving forward, we would like to hear from you (see email link below) regarding any details, in addition to what the school would know already about your child, regarding factors that you feel would impact our decision when finalising the class registers. We will consider any comments sent our way to help us make decisions that are best for the school and children in Year 2 – both for their learning but also their personal development, including their mental health and well-being.

We have not spoken to the children yet about splitting the class, this will be done on Monday next week – giving you as parents a chance to speak to them over this weekend.

Please note we have already gathered information directly from each child in Year 2 of children that are in their direct friendship groups and who they learn well with.

School leaders, SENCo, class teachers and other staff linked to safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and pastoral roles for our Year 2 class have all been consulted already. Once we have your ‘parent’ information by Monday to consider, we will be able to share with the children the decided class lists.

Having used allocation models tried and tested in numerous schools that we have consulted with; we do feel confident that the children will be pleased with the split taking place. Of course, we do expect some children to be upset about the split, which cannot be helped. However, we will work closely with you leading up to September and into the new academic year where we find children not settling as well as could be.

If you have any information that you feel is important to pass on to school leaders, please email your response to feedback@coopersaletheydongarnon.essex.sch.uk. This email address will be monitored from today, Friday 7th June (after 4pm) until Monday 10th June (9am). Emails will not be replied to as we will be spending our time looking into the information you pass our way. Again, a reminder, no need to email us any information we will already know about your child or other children in the cohort.

Having my own children attend a school that has to split/mix classes, I do recognise the importance of getting this right!

With kind regards,

Mr. D. Bateman
