Year 6 upcoming sessions on Cyber Safety and Knife Crime14 May 2025 (by admin) |
Dear Year 6 Parents/Carers,
I am writing to inform you that on Friday 23rd May, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRSS) will be visiting our school to deliver an education programme as part of a joint initiative between the police and fire services in Essex.
Session One: ECFRSS will be delivering a presentation to Year 6 on Cyber Safety. The aims for this session are to focus on the hidden dangers of social media, online gaming, online predators, cyberbullying, and identity theft. Our objectives are for each young person to:
- Understand the risks of being online.
- Understand what cyberbullying is and the impact and consequences of online bullying.
- Understand what an online scam is and how to keep information safe.
- Understand how to stay safe online when using social media, games, and websites.
Session Two: The aim of this programme is to deliver important messages about the dangers of knife crime to our students.
The presentation delivered by ECFRS will cover a number of important topics, including joint enterprise, custodial sentences, and the adolescent brain and decision-making. The objectives of this session are to:
- Understand the consequences of carrying/using a knife
- Understand the implications of joint enterprises
- Investigate ways of addressing peer pressure
We recognise that both sessions include serious and sensitive subjects, and we recommend that parents and carers discuss this at home with their Year 6 children.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
With kind regards,
Coopersale and Theydon Garnon C.E. Primary School
